4 Silly Season Skincare tips

The silly season is almost here and the time has almost come to wave goodbye to this ever so weird year of isolation, working from home, and buying all the toilet paper we can get our hands on.

Now is the time to relax and wind down and celebrate that we made it through, and, most importantly celebrate Christmas with those nearest and dearest to us.

All the celebration this silly season brings can be a little much for the skin, and I know you want yours looking as fine and fresh as possible, so I’ve prepared some silly season skincare tips.

Read more from your Maylands Beauty Specialist to find out what they are.

Tip 1: Prep your skin for long-lasting makeup

Exfoliation, a face mask, good moisturiser, primer and setting spray are a brilliant combination for preparing your skin for beautiful makeup that will last longer.

All this will help keep your skin hydrated your makeup goes on well because the canvas is plump and even. A good primer acts as a wall – your makeup will hold onto that instead of your skin.

I recommend the [ comfort zone ] Hydramemory Mask for optimal hydration.

Tip 2: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Not only is staying hydrated healthy and important for your body in general, it’s also a godsend to your skin!

Dehydration takes fluid out of your skin and over time can cause ageing and wrinkles. So, as well as using hydration products, drink plenty of water, and even more during the silly season when there is usually more alcohol on the table.

Tip 3: Always remove your makeup

You should always remove your makeup before your head hits the pillow, no matter what.

Whilst I know this can be especially difficult during the festive season when you’re tired and perhaps a little too tipsy, it’s extremely important for your skin.

Use micellar water and double cleanse with a gentle cleanser, followed by a hydrating moisturiser or night cream – and if you’re feeling really adventurous, slap on some eye cream and spray a face mist on before bed too.

Avoid makeup wipes – they are usually full of alcohol and are extremely drying on the skin.

Tip 4: Save your skin from the sun

You were all expecting this last tip I’m sure, but at Christmas in Australia, this is the most important tip of all.

You will be out in the sun all the time throughout the silly season – that’s a given. So, don’t be silly when it comes to the sun! Instead, be prepared with a hat and lots of sunscreen (bring it with you to regularly reapply).

Along with a high SPF sunscreen made for the harsh Australian sun, it’s a good idea to have an SPF in your tinted moisturiser and makeup too.

My go-to SPF product:

·       [ comfort zone ] Sublime Skin Color Perfect 50+
